Let’s first understand What exactly Engine Cadet’s role is?
This Pre Sea Training is designed for those candidates who want to pursue their career in Engine Cadet Category and want to become an Engine Officer. Engine cadets are the young cadets aspiring to become Engine Officers. They are supervised by a Chief Engineer who will inform them regarding their duties as per their training program. In other words Engine Cadets could be understood as trainee engineers who have to complete sea time training before they could be rewarded with a watch keeping licence.
Duration: This training program generally lasts somewhere between 18 months to 3 years, a major part of which is spent onboard pursuing structured training and learning everything from scratch.
Introduction To Shipping Industry, Familiarization With Engine Department Of The Ship, Types Of Engine, Types Of Pumps, Fuel Systems, Maintenance & Operation Of Machineries, Rebuilding An Engine, Life Saving Appliances, Survival At Sea, Swimming, Personality Development, English, Foreign Language & Computer Etc.
Admission Procedure, Age Limitation, Eligibility Criteria and Medical Fitness :
You do not have to clear any CET(Common Entrance Test) to apply for Engine Cadet Course. You can directly apply for the admission in the institutes providing training for this course, but Institutes do have their own selection criteria which might be Written Test or an Interview.
Age Limit: Candidate should be between 17 to 28 years old.
1.Candidate should have either 10th + ITI or 12th + B.E.(Electrical/Mechanical) or B.Tech.
2.Candidate should be able to speak and comprehend English
Height: 5.5 Feet
Weight: 48 Kg.
Vision: No Color Blindness is permitted, 6/6 Vision in both eyes, No Eye Glasses permitted.
Job Description of Engine Cadet:
Being a part of the team that is behind the servicing of the ship, these candidates have to follow and understand the behaviour of the Engineering Officers so as that they can act in their absence.
While working as an intern a candidate is expected to be involved in the control room, following the instructions of Engineering Officers. The interns assist Engineering Officers in the maintenance of the ship’s main engine and ensuring the smooth running of all the mechanical equipment.
Certifications: After Successful Completion Of The Training, The Course Certificate Will Be Issued By The Academy Approved By Director General Of Shipping, Ministry Of Surface And Transport Govt. Of India. In Addition To That Candidate Will Be Awarded With Indos & Foreign CDC (continuous Discharge Certificate).
The Candidate who completes this Pre-Sea Training course has to sail on any 750Kw Propulsion or above ship for a minimum period of 9 months or more to apply for Officer COC Assessments/Exams.
